Presentation topic and level
Presenters have been informed to target an audience of specialist ore deposit geoscientists, so talks will mostly be on a similar level and topic to the SEG/SGA conferences. Having said this, students, industry geologists or interested non-specialists are encouraged to join and ask questions during the discussion.
Sign up and meeting login details
Sign up to our mailing list here: https://oredepositshub.ch/sign-up/ at least 24 hours ahead of the talk. If you are too late – don’t worry! You can get the meeting details by registering an account here.
During the presentation
You need to setup a personal Zoom account to get into the meetings. Arrive in the Zoom session ~5 minutes prior to the presentation start time. When you sign into the Zoom meeting, please use your full name and affiliation so we know who you are during discussion (e.g. Joe Bloggs – University of Zoom). You will land in a waiting room and be admitted by the hosts when everything’s is ready. The hosts will mute your audio during the presentation, but there can be problems with this, so please ensure you are muted when you log in.
If you are comfortable doing so, we encourage you to keep your video link running so that the presenters can see their audience, and we have a more engaged, social experience. In Zoom, you can keep the presenter’s video link in a small window.
Discussion
Towards the end of the talk, participants can submit questions to the speaker via the chat window in Zoom. There are three options here:
If you would like to ask the question yourself, simply have your microphone enabled and type a short version of the question into the chat box. The host will call you out and unmute you one at a time.
If you would like the host to read out your name and your question for you, type: host/ [then your full question]
If you would like to remain anonymous in the recorded audio, type: anon/ [then your full question]
Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question! The hosts will deliberately be looking for a range of different question ‘levels’.
Recordings
In order to keep presenters comfortable with presenting cutting-edge research, please DO NOT record or take screenshots of the presentation. We will block this functionality in Zoom, and chase up any violations of this, which would result in a banning from the platform.
Speakers have the option of having their presentation recorded, and made officially available on the Ore Deposits Hub Youtube channel for as long as they choose.
If the recording is made public, it will be on our YouTube channel, posted here https://oredepositshub.ch/past-talks/, and links will be sent out to the mailing list. If the recording is posted ‘unlisted’ at the request of the speaker, you will need the link sent out to the mailing list.
To allow people who missed the talk to fully catch up, we will post the discussion audio only for 7 days in a seperate, unlisted video, which will only be accessible via a link sent to the Ore Deposits Hub mailing list. If you have a problem with your question being recorded, email us right after the talk with your name and the question you would like cut from the discussion audio.
